Scott Bessent does not impress me as a smart and savvy Treasury secretary. Curious to know his credentials for the job, I did a bit of research.
Bessent is 64 years old, has a BA from Yale in political science, is married to John Freeman--they have two children through surrogacy-- and Bessent's net worth is around $600 million.
After graduation from college, he held a series of financial positions, and then was hired by Soros Fund Management (SFM) in 1991, eventually becoming the head of its London office.
Bessent and his husband are real estate buyers and sellers of multi-million dollar properties. He was a major donor and host of fundraisers for Trump's 2024 presidential campaign. He is involved with Dialog, a secretive, invitation-only social club founded by Peter Thiel. Bessent is a close friend of King Charles.*
My take: If a person has employment history with the 'right' backer, is a high-roller in real estate, pours huge amounts of $ into a pres. candidate's campaign, and closely associates with the 'right' big shots...his short education résumé is no hindrance to winning a very high position in the US government.
I agree. And several of his ventures lost money. No consistency when on his own. If not for Soros, Bessent wouldn't be so rich or have such a high-position government job.
