I'm willing to believe that Mr. Bessent is smart and understands financial markets. But his geopolitical understanding of Russia, its people and resources seems weak.

Energy is what runs a country. So petroleum products are vital, strategic commodities for everyone. That's why Russia's oil will reach the market one way or another. On the other hand, if it doesn't that will drive up the cost of oil for the rest of the world. Why? Because Russia's exports of ten million barrels of oil per day would be off the market, driving up the price of the oil that remains. And that means higher prices at the gas pump. Except for Russia, I mean, who already have some of the lowest prices in the developed world.

Short story: the world market for petroleum products and Russia's place in it is a force all its own. Attempts to artificially manipulate the market will fail with probable negative consequences, even if you're the US Treasury.

Long story: the history of Russia begins in the year 862, a very long time ago. Fast forward and within living memory, the Russian people suffered calamities unlike anything the world has seen before or since. And yet there they are. Recently they picked themselves up after yet another great calamity and now have the fourth largest economy in the world. Their military forces are modern, numerous, battle-hardened and second to none on the strategic level. Russia also has perhaps the most important allies it could hope for in China and India.

With a high probability, there is nothing Mr. Bessent can do that's going to make the Russians follow America's orders.

How are these idiots not getting that RUSSIA IS NOT DEPENDING ON US TO CREATE THEIR ECONOMY??!!! Bessent is just another jackass who thinks the world revolves around us!! NOW WE SEE WHY BRICS IS GOING TO BE SUCCESSFUL!! The United States is so isolated now that Bessent et al cannot even see what’s ahead! RUSSIA IS NOT BEING THREATENED BY US ANYMORE! China is not threatened by us, nor is India or Brazil. WE’VE BEEN THE BULLIES FOR A LONG, LONG TIME. Not anymore. HEY DJT!!! It’s NOT working!!!

Hopefully now Russia drop all pretense and ideals of any form rapprochement with the U.S, the U.S is the aggressor, has been, continues to be and this ridiculous speak out of both sides of the mouth on again, off again diplomacy is showing up the U.S for the desperate they have become… I understand Russia in recognition of such might have been stringing the U.S and BIC bloviator in chief Trump along, but surely now all ideas of doing anything with the U.S will be off the table, the U.S just as with the U.K and the rest of the Liberal Rules Based Order Western States save Fico’s Slovakia and Victor Orban’s Hungary need to be given the middle raised digit, told simply to f..k off, whilst at it, a further warning that any attacks on the Russian territory’s will be retaliated by Russia, except at a scale greater than that to which Russia was subjected.

Simply put the world has tired well and truly of the noise, the bullshit, t8me Russia truly imposed itself and let these warmongering assholes know their reality… the world has changed, time for niceties are over, whilst at it, whenever these tools visit that corrupted Nazi shithole Kiev, drop iskanders or Kinzhal close by, let them know they are in a war zone, to watch their filthy mouths or the next ones will be right up their jacksie, enough already of the rubbish talk and outright disrespect from the Ruttes, Kallas’s, Van der Leyers of the West, seriously such a response from Russia is long overdue.. just saying

There is a good chance that Mr. Bessent was simply told to say the words given to him to reduce the chance that Trump drifts away from the prepared scripts. However, in general, I would say American education in high schools and below do not have good coverage on world history and geography. These people are political appointees due to US domestic factors. The Treasury Secretary should not have made comments on geopolitics unless absolutely.

How big a portion of all this rhetoric is real? How many threats has Trump made? Only a small portion. The cited Bessent statement was merely using Europeans' projection (their economies are collapsing, not that of Russia) to checkmate Europeans. India cannot sell oil to Europe if the Europeans don't buy Russian oil from India. Then there will be fewer reasons to sanction India. And the faster Europe crashes and burns, the better. The reason is that it is the only way to have a general rise-up to drive these parasites out. Ordinary folks love peaceful lives and will not go against their governments until there is no alternative. People of Europe have been squeezed hard, and they have complained. But that is not enough. OPEC has increased production lately but it is unlikely to replace Russian oil for Europe.
