Heartfelt condolences, Larry! You have been already for quite some time working to inform, educate and help change the tragic state of almost constant wars our country has been engaged in. That is so needed ongoing if it is to influence our future.
All of us, myself included, must also be more supportive of our Veterans.
Thank you for your constant dedicated hard work on behalf of our beleaguered nation.
Veterans, the groups that provide services to them, and volunteers like Larry who work with and befriend them, need our support. Money and time donations, expressions of care, and prayer are constantly needed.
I am so sorry to learn of the death of your compatriot, someone with whom you clearly had an affinity, together the greatest bond men van have one toward the other….mutual respect.
Sadder still and what hit me the hardest was the following disclosure ….
“Since 2001, the United States has lost more than 140,000 veterans to suicide — more than the total American combat deaths in every war since Vietnam combined. Between 6,000 and 6,700 veterans have died by suicide every single year since the War on Terror began, and the VA’s most recent annual report documents an average of 17.6 veteran deaths by suicide every day.”
Such is a blight, a stain on every politician in the United States, irrespective the party they cling unto… it is a stain on the constituents who mindlessly re-elect into office known warmongers, aficionados, those with a penchant for fostering ever more death, destruction, injury, sanctions, blockades and other acts of war perpetuated the U.S.
This political class includes all we know affiliated Epstein, to that bastard State Construct, Isteal/ Israel, and who have with glee and greed taken funding from AIPAC, what grates even more is that many American voters are to timid, gutless in calling out and letting it be known that’s it’s not OK to vote for appropriations that enable these acts, most illegal under international law, that breach human rights and the laws of humanity, the rules of war, that enabled agencies like the CIA, USAID, State Dept and Treasury to initiate acts that we know since WW2 has taken more than 38millions civilian lives, this whilst loudly whoop whooping, USA’ing and championing democracy and liberal freedoms… go figure, not for anyone else it seems…
Thus to U.S electors I say shame, shame on you all who aided and abetted, enabled such behaviour resulting deployment, coupled nearly always with truly unlawful foreign policy that has resulted in those that have served, your men and woman, putting their lives, together theirs, their families mental, emotional and financial well being on the line as they are shipped out to fight for the latest Wall Street, Bankers, Financiers, Corporates getting themselves off and they’re latest collective wet dream of greed, avarice, more enrichment, in what continues to be a policy going back to the 1800’s and the first foreign escapade when the U.S government was lobbied by the Dole Brothers to go into Hawaii, dethrone the ruling monarch and to enable the Dole Brothers to take control of sugar cane and other agricultural production, this was followed by an excursion into the Philippines and hasn’t stopped since…and all for a handful of dollars donated to the Party, Presidential, Senatorial and Congressional campaign… talk about selling cheaply the nations greatest treasure, the lives and blood, the well being of your service members…. Shameful.
Many American men and woman who have served, believe they are doing so altruistically, selflessly giving of their all to advance the lies and falsehoods the political swine always espouse, FREEDOM, DEMOCRACY 😂😂😂 and anything else that these these liars believe they can get away with bullshitting the populace about to justify and that necessitates the latest iteration and act of gratuitous and wanton violence perpetrated the U.S, once having woken up to the facts of what their service actually was about undoubtedly and on the face of it, predicated Larry’s essay, read, these servicemen and woman with the true realisation of the consequences of their actions, coupled the fact they realise they were lied unto, grappling as many likely do the fact they survived while others clearly beloved did not, commensurate with what they’ve actually done, the impact of the policy their government used them to implement, forcing them to confront their role played are finding that’s the only solution to deal with the demons they are compelled to confront.. resulting in this terrible statistic and reality.
The most terrifying reality is that there seems no end in sight, certainly not predicate the insane statements BIC, bloviator in chief, Trump, as he has bullied, threatened his way around the planet since the beginning of his administration, whilst an ever more terrifying statistic is that since 1776, the United States has only known 19 years of its military not being engaged in a kinetic conflagration of any kind.. and yet it’s the Chinese, Russians, Iranians, North Koreans who are the enemy, the boogie man, the security threat, fact is it’s America the world sees and holds as the greatest terrorist, threat to peace, warmongers… a fact I believe many of your service men and woman are realising and which sadly result in outcomes such as portrayed by this essay from Larry… a real indictment on the nation… and Americans wonder why they are being despised, vilified, hated around the globe.. clueless, it ain’t rocket science nd no PhD or Masters is needed to work, figure it out.. just saying
Although many of us are touched after seeing these dreadful data on veteran suicides it means much more when it is close and personal. The closest I came btw was comforting a co-worker who lost two relatives to suicide post-Iraq. Apart from mediating personally with acquaintances confronted by the horrible consequences of America's wars of aggressions, what else can we do?
What else can we do? 😂😂😂😂😂 Good grief…. Work it out..
Stop voting tribally, do proper due diligence before ever casting a vote, thoroughly look into those you propose propelling into office, if your to lazy to even just do that, to ensure you are not the problem, voting habitually, lazily, the result that by your vote cast you are incessantly empowering warmongers such as Lindsay Graham, the two faced arse wipes like the $5million plus AIPAC man, Corey Booker, yep, circa $5.8million in AIPAC monies tipped into his account… giving him total freedom to vote as he pleases 😂😂😂
Booker who interestingly enough like many who identify the shift in public sentiments, has recently had a damascene moment and allegedly stopped, no longer taking he has stated, AIPAC funds, though his record belies that statement as he still votes “Yay” in favour of every pro Zionist Israel Statute and legislation presented to the house that directly benefits that demonic, vile shithole..
Mind you, Booker as will every AIPAC beholden politician equally vote “NAY” against any proposed legislation that does not directly benefit his paymasters… funny that.
The points noted above exemplify the kind of detail every voter in the U.S needs to drill down into, it’s all data that is readily and publicly available … it just needs commitment to doing so, I mean think of the fact it’s not 1776, your not being asked as many were to put everything on the line… all the modern latter day American voter is being asked to do is to cast a meaningful vote.. and if your to lazy to do what’s required to ensure your vote cast will benefit the nation, your community, yourself and loved ones… well, you don’t deserve the nation your forebears and all servicemen and woman who have laid down their lives, been injured fought for… likewise they don’t deserve such voters, lazy, uncaring except for lip service, as American countrymen and woman…
It’s long past time to shape up politically as relates to voting America… that, or lose it all… the stench of rotten trash stinking out your houses Congress, Senate and Pa Ave can be smelt from down here in the Antipodes… just saying
What a horrible tragedy that highlights the hypocrisy of the political class who wrap themselves in the flag and give lip service to supporting our troops. The story of his humility makes the magnitude of loss more poignant and hopefully shines much needed light on the epidemic of suicides from moral injury plaguing those who enlisted to serve and protect.
My deepest condolences with the one comforting thought old age has given me as a way to cope with loss.. the size of the hole in your heart equals the love that once filled it and to have that much love in your heart for the time you had together is its own blessing. <3
Larry, my heart goes out to you as you mourn the loss of Jamie Lee Sclatter, Navy Corpsman. You were blessed to be his instructor--it was an honor for you to work with and get to know such a fine man.
And then he was abruptly ripped from this earth--from all those who loved and knew him--because of painful battle in his mind with the waging and effects of war. Senseless loss, yes! War is a hungry monster, devouring victims after the battles, too. The selfish, greedy, heartless, foolish policies of men and goverments use war as a tool. That tool ends up hurting soldiers, the soldiers' families, peers, and teachers. Larry you have a big hurt. The senselessness of his death is infuriating. It is a good thing that you shared Jamie's story, and your grief and anger, with us. We care. God be with you.
I have had friends check out. I know how much it just bloody hurts your heart.
But I have also come to honour their decision to leave the game when they feel they have nothing good to contribute. It is their right as much as it hurts us.
When we take back our educational institutions, shut down Hollywood, and allow real books to be published and read again. We are in a Weimar situation, the country is not there for its Nation. Everything is inverted, its a population reduction and replacement program.
If those noodle-spined scum who feast off war profits had to be first over the top peace would come. We thought slavery was over until congress and presidents sold themselves and our youth for the ever inflating shekel.
🙏✝️ Larry, I’m so, so sorry. What a tragedy for all who loved Jamie and have lost him for the rest of the days we have left on earth. I’m so sorry you lost a friend that you love and admire.
Larry, lots of people have a YouTube chanel taken by people clicking that it’s offensive. Start a new one. You know to be on the neutral-ish side when interviewing a guest. When you’re a guest, be as open as you are.
Corpsmen are a special breed. The energy of my corpsman felt like the ocean mixed with wild horses and adventure. Combat search and rescue corpsmen are unique.
Become a connoisseur of mixing MREs. Sleep a week isolated in the middle of the desert with spiders the size of rabbits in a helicopter. Poop in a box during a sandstorm. Land on the Comfort in a blood encrusted flight suit. Wide eyed looks. No talking or mixing with shipmates. Separate quarters. Mess deck off limits. Rinse and repeat.
Corpsmen aren’t on the ground yet in Iran. We don’t have the blood of the 30,000 wounded or 3,000 martyred on our flight suits. That’s a 90% survival rate. Corpsmen haven’t yet heard the crying and screaming of broken family, friends and neighbors in Iran. Corpsmen haven’t picked up body parts of shipmates and won’t be haunted by shadows - yet.
We / the U.S. created a million martyrs and broken communities in West Asia. At a 90% survival rate, we may have wounded 10-million. We bombed as indiscriminately as the IDF.
A few brittle twigs in the brain snap after hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of medevacs of upwards of 30 litters with as many as 50 wounded.
We destroyed communities. We left behind people swallowed by rubble. Generations have lost grandparents, parents and children. Lost DNA. Lost ‘what might have been’.
Stateside, a realization set in that lost shipmates, nightmares and all the black burning oil wells coughed up were for Chevron and Exxon. Now we know it was Israel’s war.
Stateside, a recklessness floated in like thick fog. Boundaries were pushed and brought a wave of death and destruction. Drinking. Deadly vehicle wrecks. Near deadly car wrecks. Blown up marriages. Hair trigger tempers. Contempt.
My guy was most broken by the blown up children. For a long time he would cry out in his sleep hands pushing a little girls brains back in her head. She was the size of our youngest when it happened. There was nothing that could be done. It’s over. But somehow it wasn’t and isn’t. She is one of the shadows.
The loss and destruction alters lives. Crowds and the 4th of July agitate. Crowded bars and dancing, gone forever. PTSD is an ugly beast.
Many thanks for sharing this, Larry, and my heartfelt condolences. You lost a dear friend, but your courage and pursuit of truth earn you friends worldwide. We will remember and honour Jamie Lee Sclatter and all like him in our prayers and in our efforts to bring peace and to oppose needless wars and their incitement.
¨Transcendental Meditation (TM) is a technique developed by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi that involves silently repeating a mantra for 15-20 minutes, twice a day, to promote relaxation and self-awareness. It is considered a non-religious practice aimed at reducing stress and enhancing overall well-being...¨
The David Lynch Foundation - Trancendental Meditation
¨Our Foundation was established to ensure that any child in America who wants to learn and practice the Transcendental Meditation program can do so. The TM program is the most thoroughly researched and widely practiced program in the world for developing the full creative potential of the brain and mind...¨
¨For more than 15 years, our mission at the Center for Resilience of the David Lynch Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, has been to help eradicate Posttraumatic Stress (PTS) among veterans by offering the TM-based Resilient Warrior Program, a simple, easy-to-learn, evidence-based approach to relieving symptoms of PTS and major depression and developing greater resilience to stress.
TM an Introduction
TM is an easy-to-learn, enjoyable-to-practice mental technique for deep relaxation and stress-reduction that has been successfully offered in medical schools, academic and VA medical centers, hospitals, military academies, substance abuse centers, prisons, and other settings. The TM technique is practiced for 15-20 minutes twice a day. To date, more than ten million people of all ages, nationalities, and religions have learned the technique.
TM practice produces a unique neurophysiological state that combines deep metabolic rest with heightened mental alertness. This state of deep relaxation, which researchers have termed “restful alertness,” is a potent antidote to stress. Hundreds of peer-reviewed published studies on TM have documented improvements in a wide variety of stress related disorders, as well as significant improvements in cognitive function and overall health and well-being. The National Institutes of Health and the Department of Defense have awarded nearly $30 million in grant support for research on TM
An estimated one million veterans suffer from the nightmare of PTS, and that includes more than 270,000 Vietnam war veterans. Worse, less than 20% of these veterans will receive adequate care due to lack of effective treatments, fear of stigma or insufficient government resources. Half of those won’t receive any care at all. Prolonged Exposure (PE) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), two of the Veterans Administration (VA) first line interventions for PTS, are not effective for between one-half and two-thirds of patients. Left untreated, PTS cripples the ability to function and places veterans at great risk for violent and self-destructive behavior, including:
Suicide—more than 6,500 vets die by suicide every year
Alcoholism or drug abuse
Severe depression, anxiety or emotional numbness
Family and employment problems
The Center for Resilience has instructed thousands of veterans, active-duty personnel and military families in TM. One of our most successful partnerships has been with the Bronx VA Resilience and Wellness Center (RWC). The RWC is an innovative program focused on suicide prevention. The RWC targets vulnerable veterans by augmenting traditional treatments with complementary and integrative health interventions. DLF and TM have been part of the RWC since its inception in October 2018 and over 100 high-risk veterans have learned TM. Multi-year program partnerships also include VA hospitals nationwide; National Defense University in Washington, DC; UCLA Veterans Family Wellness Center; EOD Warrior Foundation; residential substance abuse treatments centers in New York City; City University of New York Office of Veterans; numerous military bases, including Ft. Bragg, Ft. Gordon, Ft. Belvoir, and Ft. Hamilton; and the New York City Veterans Mental Health Coalition
A Message From
General James "Spider" Marks
Tragically in the time it takes to read this, another veteran will fall from the ranks. This national tragedy is compounded by the fact that such acts cause lifelong harm to family members and co-workers—and directly challenge the military’s ethos: “No one left behind.” Clearly these patriots who choose to release their pain through suicide rather than confront it have been “left behind.” And despite the best efforts of the Veterans Administration, including untold billions of dollars allocated to the treatment of PTS and the reduction of suicide ideation, the number of veterans taking their own lives continues to grow.
For more than 15 years, Center for Resilience has successfully delivered an evidence-based, trauma-healing meditation technique to more than one million underserved children, veterans with PTS, and women survivors of violence and assault. Extensive research, including randomized controlled trials, has documented the benefits of the Transcendental Meditation technique for reducing symptoms of PTS and suicidal ideation, as well as decreasing stress, anxiety, depression, substance use disorder, and heart disease; improving brain and cognitive functioning; and raising performance.
The Center for Resilience will focus its considerable expertise, energy, and resources on addressing the terrible problem of high suicide rates among veterans through 21 TO NONE.® The goal of this national initiative will be to provide every veteran and family member with the opportunity to learn the trauma-healing Transcendental Meditation technique, at no cost, to heal trauma, prevent suicides and raise performance.
Veteran suicides must be stopped. Lives must be saved. Families must be made whole. Here is a practical, scalable, evidence-based medical intervention that should be made available immediately to every veteran and family member.¨
The most recent third-party validation of this research came in January 2020 when the Journal of the American Medical Association published an article on the current state of VA treatments noting that TM is as effective as the VA’s first line recommended treatments for PTS. This was based, in part, on the findings of a $2.4 million DoD-funded randomized control trial at the San Diego VA which the New England Journal of Medicine’s “Journal Watch” listed as one of 2019’s top 10 psychiatry publications. This study of 203 veterans with PTS compared TM with Prolonged Exposure (PE), one of the VAs first line treatments for PTS, and a PTS education active control. The study was published in The Lancet Psychiatry in November 2018 and found TM to be at least as effective as PE and significantly more effective than a PTS education control group.
Results include:
61 percent of the TM group (68 people) had clinically significant symptom improvement
42 percent of those who received PE (68 people) showed similar improvement
32 percent of those who received PTS education (67 people) showed this improvement
Nidich S, et al. Non-trauma-focused meditation versus exposure therapy in veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder: a randomized controlled trial. The Lancet Psychiatry 2018 5:975-986.
ADDITIONAL RESEARCH ON TM AND PTS
TM decreased multiple features of post-traumatic stress disorder in US war veterans, with reductions in depression, anxiety, insomnia, severity of delayed stress syndrome, emotional numbness, alcohol consumption, family problems, and difficulty in obtaining employment.
Rosenthal JZ, et al. Effects of Transcendental Meditation in veterans of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom with posttraumatic stress disorder: a pilot study. Military Medicine 2011; 176:626 630.
TM practice decreased PTSD symptoms in war veterans to below clinical levels after one month, with further reductions after three months. The study found those veterans who practiced TM twice a day (recommended schedule) had a 30% greater decline in symptoms of PTSD than veterans who practiced TM only once a day, a dose response effect that suggests causality.
Herron RE and Rees B. The Transcendental Meditation Program's Impact on the Symptoms of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder of Veterans: An Uncontrolled Pilot Study. Military Medicine 2017;1:1-7.
Active duty military service members with PTSD or anxiety who learned TM showed reduced medication usage and an overall decrease in severity of psychological symptoms.

So sorry to hear of your loss and of so many losses by suicide among veterans. This makes it easy to understand the very high rate of suicide among the IDF soldiers.
We should pity even the soldiers as victims of a murderous system. Israeli's didn't choose to be born, poor, in Israel. The ones with money, that call the shots, are drinking on beaches in Asia or Miami. The Israeli Jews conscripted into the IDF are victims, too. Not many teenegers have the wisdom to know that their own country would betray them, why would they?
Thank you, Larry. You said what needed to be said about this corpsman’s tragedy, and the epic ongoing tragedy of suicides among our veterans. Let’s support our troops by categorically refusing their deployment into quagmires that cannot be won, like the current, dumb as a brick, escapade against Iran. Larry, we know you are hurting, but hang in there, man, and continue speaking truth to power.
Sorry for your awful loss, Larry. Thanks for this. We see the lives of people of the most noble character being sacrificed to the whims of the lowest characters among us. Nearly everyone has heard that there is a very high rate of veteran suicide, but you are the first writer I have seen to publish actual figures.
6,000 to 6,700 needless self-inflicted deaths each year since 2001! That roughly doubles the number, every year, of deaths reported from the World Trade Center collapse. Not even counting the victims abroad.
A thousand curses on the criminals who conceived and planned the Global War on Terror, who constructed the narratives, built careers on it and continue to profit from it, and a heaping big steaming curse on all their highly-paid cheerleaders in Washington and in the media.
General Smedley Butler put it plain: War is a racket, run by racketeers who occupy positions of power and influence. A real Cosa Nostra if there ever was one.
I got tired of being sad and turned that emotion into anger. Every once in a while the real thing gets through, though FFS.
People, try and have some joy in your life, even if its smoking, watching movies or something kind of destructive. Not many of us are here for a long ride. And please talk to somebody if you can't shake it, don't withdraw. You might need to make a big change in your life if you are really in a rut, but I promise you, a good hour, then a good day, then a good week WILL HAPPEN. Everybody has tough times, every one of us. We actually do need YOU, every one of you. Stick around, please!
Heartfelt condolences, Larry! You have been already for quite some time working to inform, educate and help change the tragic state of almost constant wars our country has been engaged in. That is so needed ongoing if it is to influence our future.

This war must be stopped.
I do TM for more than fifty years.
TRANSCENDENTAL MEDITATION
¨Transcendental Meditation (TM) is a technique developed by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi that involves silently repeating a mantra for 15-20 minutes, twice a day, to promote relaxation and self-awareness. It is considered a non-religious practice aimed at reducing stress and enhancing overall well-being...¨

The time to act is now.
Please support 21 to NONE.

Research on TM and PTS
Highlighted by New England Journal of Medicine
and Journal of the American Medical Association
